Why individual technical attention, video analysis and consistent coaching matter in developing young cricketers.
There is no shortage of cricketing talent in India. What is often missing is the right environment to identify that talent, understand the technical gaps and help young players improve through a structured coaching process.
At Push Sports, this is precisely what we are trying to address through our association with Super Kings Academy.
Our recent High Performance Cricket Camp in Gurugram was an opportunity to demonstrate how focused technical coaching can make a difference to a young player’s development.
The emphasis was not simply on spending more time in the nets. It was on understanding how each player bats or bowls, identifying specific areas requiring improvement and introducing drills that can help correct those issues over time.

Our association with Super Kings Academy is an important part of our efforts to strengthen the quality of cricket coaching available to young players in Gurugram.
Super Kings Academy (SKA) is the cricket training arm of the Chennai Super Kings. By its own published account it has worked with more than 7,000 young cricketers across a network of centres in Tamil Nadu, and its coaching group is led by people who have worked at a professional level. Head coach Sriram Krishnamurthy has over twenty years of coaching experience across the UK, Australia and New Zealand, served as a Performance Coach with New Zealand Cricket, was named Cricket Wellington Coach of the Year in 2017 and 2018, and was part of the TNPL-winning Siechem Madurai Panthers staff in 2018. Director of Cricket Louis Mariano brings a similar span of experience and played first-division cricket for India Cements. You can read more on our Super Kings Cricket Academy Delhi NCR page.
SKA contributes specialist cricket coaching expertise, while Push Sports brings its sports infrastructure, operational capabilities and experience in developing structured sports programmes for children.
The idea is straightforward. Young cricketers should have access to quality coaching, regular practice, individual technical attention and a clear understanding of their progress.
Our cricket coaching programmes operate at two locations in Gurugram:
These centres serve aspiring cricketers and families across Golf Course Road, Golf Course Extension Road, Sector 67 and adjoining areas.
The objective is to make structured cricket development more accessible while maintaining a strong focus on coaching quality.
Most young cricketers spend considerable time practising. However, practice alone does not necessarily lead to improvement.
A batter may repeatedly play away from the body without recognising the technical problem. A bowler may struggle with consistency because of an issue with head position, front-foot alignment or body balance.
Unless these problems are identified and corrected, additional practice can sometimes reinforce the same technical mistakes.
This is where specialist coaching becomes important.

During the High Performance Cricket Camp, players underwent focused batting and bowling sessions involving demonstrations, individual observations, corrective drills and video analysis.
The objective was to help players understand not just what they needed to improve, but why those improvements were necessary.
Batting development was a major focus of the camp.
Two specific technical areas received particular attention.
The sweep and sweep drive are important scoring options against spin bowling. However, their effectiveness depends on balance, footwork, head position and timing.
Players were taken through drills designed to improve their execution of these shots. The coaching focused on:

Rather than simply asking players to repeat a shot, coaches worked on the underlying technical components required to execute it effectively.
Another important area was helping batters develop the habit of playing the ball closer to their bodies.
Young players sometimes develop a tendency to reach for deliveries, particularly around the off stump. This can compromise balance, control and shot selection.
Specific drills encouraged players to:
The objective was to develop technically sound batting habits that players can carry into regular practice and competitive matches. If your child is just starting out, our guide to cricket batting tips and tricks for beginners covers the fundamentals these drills build on.
Bowling was another important component of the camp.
Video analysis was used to examine individual bowling actions and identify areas requiring technical correction.
One of the advantages of video-based feedback is that players can see their own actions. This helps them understand technical observations that might otherwise be difficult to appreciate through verbal instructions alone.
The analysis identified several areas for improvement.
Some players were observed dropping their non-bowling arm during delivery. Corrective drills were demonstrated to improve coordination, balance and alignment through the bowling action.
Open landing of the front foot was another issue identified during the sessions. Players were introduced to drills intended to improve their alignment towards the target and develop greater consistency in delivery.
Excessive body flexion during delivery was observed in some bowling actions. The coaching focused on maintaining a more stable and balanced body position.
The position of the head during delivery can influence balance, coordination and consistency. Players were guided through exercises designed to address excessive falling of the head during their bowling action.
These interventions were specific to the technical observations made during the camp. The intention was not to impose one identical bowling action on every player, but to help each bowler understand the areas that required attention.
One of the challenges in cricket coaching is helping players understand movements that take place within fractions of a second.
A batter may not realise how far their head is falling across the line of the ball. A bowler may not recognise how their body position changes during delivery.
Video analysis makes these movements visible. It allows coaches to explain technical issues more clearly and helps players relate corrective drills to their own actions.
However, video analysis is only one part of the coaching process. The real improvement comes when players consistently practise the recommended corrections and receive feedback on their progress.
A cricket camp should not be treated as an isolated event. Its real value lies in the technical learning that players take back into their regular coaching sessions.
One of the important observations from the camp was that every player has different strengths and areas requiring improvement. Some need technical corrections. Others need greater consistency or better execution.
It is therefore important that individual observations translate into continued practice.
The respective centre coaches will be encouraged to follow up on the technical inputs provided during the camp and monitor the progress of players over the coming weeks.
We recognise that technical changes do not always produce immediate results. A player may initially find it difficult to adjust to a new batting position or bowling movement.
However, consistent practice, patience and appropriate guidance can help these corrections become part of the player’s natural game.
The success of a high-performance camp should ultimately be measured by how much of its learning translates into sustained improvement.

One of the encouraging aspects of the camp was the quality of young talent on display. Several players demonstrated considerable potential.
The challenge is to ensure that this potential is supported by the right coaching, practice environment and opportunities for continued development.
At Push Sports, we believe talent identification and talent development must go hand in hand. Identifying a promising player is only the beginning. Helping that player improve requires commitment from coaches, regular training and continued support from parents.
Our partnership with Super Kings Academy is intended to contribute to this development process.

We have seen many promising young cricketers during the camp, and there is good reason to be encouraged by their potential.
However, cricketing development is a gradual process. Not every technical correction will immediately result in more runs or wickets. There will be occasions when players struggle while adjusting to changes in technique.
This is where patience becomes important. Parents play a critical role in encouraging children through these phases.
Our responsibility as coaches and sports educators is to provide the right guidance and an environment in which children can continue learning. The responsibility of parents is equally important: supporting the process, encouraging consistent effort and helping children remain motivated.
At Push Sports, our objective is not limited to producing better cricketers. We want sport to help children become more confident, disciplined, resilient and responsible individuals.
Our association with Super Kings Academy is another step towards that objective.
